In the fall 2008 the Environment Committee established a five-year mandate to make improvement to the school grounds and the play areas, with the proceeds raised from the school’s Recycling Program. During the summer of 2009 the committee had an additionallay structure installed for our primary students.
With the proceeds from the 2009-10 recycling, the Environment Committee installed an outdoor classroom. This structure is used regularly by all students from kindergarten to grade 6.
This past summer the committee had major improvements made to the paved area next to the primary field and will install basketball nets which we know will appeal to our students in grades 4-6. The committee has also purchased another major play structure for the elementary students and they are hoping to have it installed within a couple of weeks.
When they complete the ongoing projects this fall, the Environment Committee has additional plans to make further improvements to the grounds and play areas regularly used by our students. However, the committee can’t achieve their objectives without the help of every family in the school. You can help by recycling regularly. Your options are: Saturday Recycling Contests on September 29, November 24, January 26, March 30 and May 25; our weekly Thursday blitzes between 8:00-8:20 am.; dropping your recycling at Evergreen Recycling on Elizabeth Avenue and asking that the proceeds be credited to École Mary Queen of Peace School’s account.
Our first contest is this Saturday, September 29 from 9:00 am. – 12:00 noon at the student entrance of École Mary Queen of Peace. Our September contest is traditionally our most successful of the year. Please try to make this our most successful Recycling Contest ever! Please participate by bringing in recyclables and/or helping out for 30 minutes or so during the contest. In addition to helping us meet the Environment Committee’s goals, participating will raise environmental awareness and present students with a great opportunity to win great prizes at our Recycling Assembly in June.
