The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District will be using an online registration process for the English Kindergarten and early French Immersion Kindergarten programs. Children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2015 in order to register. Please note this registration process is for the 2014-2015 Kinderstart children who will be in Kindergarten in 2015-2016. Online registration will take place on May 28th and May 29th, 2014 starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. via the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District’s webpage http://www.nlesd.ca. These times will be for those
registering for both English Kindergarten and Early French Immersion Kindergarten. For areas of the province that have already completed registration at their schools, online registration is not required this year. You will need the following in order to complete an online application:
• An MCP number including expiration date;
• An email address in order to receive confirmation of receipt of your application;
• Phone contact number and an emergency contact phone number; and,
• An internet-ready device.
To complete the registration process, proof of address and confirmation of MCP number must be provided in person at the designated school on or before June 13, 2014. Any parent/guardian requiring Internet access or technical support may visit their zoned school during registration times for assistance. Please contact your zoned school by May 26, 2014 to arrange assistance during the registration process.
French Immersion is a program designed for nonfrancophone children. Parents/guardians interested in registering a child for the French Immersion Kindergarten Program must select their zoned school. If Early French Immersion is not offered in the zoned school, parents/guardians must select the school closest to their place of residence that offers Early French Immersion. The District reserves the right to make the final decision regarding student acceptance and placement. For the Eastern Region, Early French Immersion Kindergarten registration takes place on a first-come basis and applications will be dated and time-stamped upon submission of the online application form. Parents/guardians are advised to visit the NLESD website (www.nlesd.ca) for additional Early French Immersion details, including dates and times of information sessions, specific to your region.
For the communities of Nain and Hopedale, parents/guardians planning to register their children for Inuktitut Immersion should contact the school principal.
